    E-News for December 1

    December 2, 2019

The worship committee would like to thank the congregation for all their help changing the paraments last Sunday. We appreciated your assembling and trimming the trees, hanging wreaths, changing the window decorations and much more. We are so thankful that you stayed and had lunch and socialized with us. You made what could have been a lot of work a special day.

Worship committee has ordered Advent books to assist your family in preparing for the Christmas season. Take a few minutes and read pages to help find the true joy of Christmas. The books are available in the parlor and welcome table in the foyer.

In the parlor, you will find a Deacon volunteer sheet for new and old members wanting to fully participate in the life of our church. It lists missions of the Deacons that help us care for each other. Please check areas that most interest you and your family and place the form in the basket in the parlor. Training is provided, and questions can be addressed by a Deacon.

Bev’s Mitten Tee Project begins today and runs through Epiphany (January). The congregation will have the opportunity to decorate the bare Christmas tree in the parlor with mittens, hats, scarves, underwear, and socks in both children and adult sizes. Adult sizes are always needed to share with our pancake breakfast guests. Last year, we distributed the collected items to PCDC, pancake breakfast, The Shack, and St. Ursula’s. Please help individuals in our community to be warmer during the coming winter days. You can even bring something different every Sunday!

GMIA Community Potluck: There will be a community potluck meal hosted by the Greater Morgantown Interfaith Association at 4:30 p.m., on December 8, at Spruce St. United Methodist Church. All are invited as we celebrate the holiday together with our interfaith and downtown neighbors.

Exam Packs: Please help FPC support our WVU students as they prepare for their finals by donating snack items for our exam packs. Our deacons will fill bags with these items and deliver them to our students. Please deposit individually wrapped, nutritious items such as dried soups, popcorn, crackers, nuts, dried fruits, assorted sweets, teas, hot chocolate packets, aspirin, juice boxes and other useful items into the exam pack box (in the parlor) by Sunday, December 8. Thank you for your support of this mission.

Ecumenical Group: All are invited to join an ecumenical group at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, in Room 1, to begin the study of "Painting the Stars." Together we will use a video series exploring the divine yearning all creation carries that we call God. Painting the Stars considers an evolutionary model; an image that is not static; a dynamic yearning. The series invites participants into an awareness that we are not separate from the creativity that created us.

Presbyterian Women’s Annual Cookies ‘N More Sale will be held from 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, in the fellowship hall. Proceeds from the cookie sale, treasure table, wreath sales, and bazaar items will go to PW’s mission fund that supports international concerns, community efforts, and church projects. You can help in the following ways: baking and buying cookies, donating gently used items to the treasure table, buying bazaar items, buying a wreath, and helping set up and work the event. Sign-up sheets will be available in the parlor for bakers and volunteers. We will need workers to help set up on Friday, December 13, and workers for the day of the event. Please join Presbyterian Women in support of its many projects.

Save the date for the Advent Cantata during worship on December 15. We will be looking for youth and children to be narrators and cast members (contact Leigh LaSala for more information). See Ken Godwin if you would like to be a member of the choir for this event.

Everyone is invited to an afternoon of Christmas Caroling on Sunday, December 22, from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. We will meet at the church and then travel together to various locations in our community. Hot cider and appetizers will be provided upon returning to the church.

Did you know there are two ways you can support FPC just by doing your holiday shopping?
    • Amazon Smile: Amazon Smile is the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same service. When you start your shopping at https://smile.amazon.com/, Amazon will donate 0.5% of your eligible Amazon Smile purchases to the charitable organization of your choice, including First Presbyterian Church, Morgantown!
    • Kroger Plus Community Rewards: Kroger Community Rewards makes fund-raising easy by donating to local organizations based on the shopping you do every day. Once you link your card to an organization, all you have to do is shop at Kroger and swipe your Plus Card! Visit https://www.kroger.com/account/enrollCommunityRewardsNow/ for more information.

We, the people of First Presbyterian Church, are a welcoming congregation practicing the hospitality of Jesus by greeting, welcoming, and embracing visitors and guests. In addition to extending hospitality, we gladly assist visitors by helping them find their way through the building. If you’re unsure of where something is, just ask! We happily and consistently endeavor to reflect Christ’s love to visitors, guests, neighbors, and each other.

Attention Parents: We have a kids’ space in the back of the sanctuary with sensory and quiet activities to give children an outlet during worship. Don’t worry if a little noise comes from one of our little worshippers - we are grateful to have all ages in worship with us! We also have a nursery on the lower level for infants through age 5. Please feel free to take your children to meet our nursery attendants, Janine and Teanna, if you wish to do so.

We have a Prayer Place in the sanctuary for you to share prayer requests prior to the service. These requests will also be used to create a church prayer list distributed each week.

FPC’s Breeze Account: As you may know, our church directory is available online through Breeze. It’s a free, convenient way to access the church directory, send emails to members, and view/edit your contact information. If you haven’t registered, email Johnetta (FPCMorgantown@gmail.com) or Kim (PresbyMorgantown@gmail.com) and they will send a welcome email for you to set up a new account.

We have a church communication form for announcements shared in the bulletin, Good News, E-news, website, and social media accounts. You can access the form on the church website (https://www.firstpresmorgantown.org/resource-page) or pick up a paper copy from the church office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kim (304-296-8236; presbymorgantown@gmail.com).
