You can contribute to the Peace and Global Witness Offering throughout October. One of four annual PC(USA) offerings, the Peace and Global Witness Offering enables the church to promote the peace of Christ by addressing systems of injustice in our own communities and around the world. Part of this offering is distributed locally. This year, the local share will go to Morgantown’s Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center. Designated envelopes are available in the pews for your use.
Family Fun Night – Trick or Treating: Join Nurture & Learning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, for trick or treating in downtown Morgantown. Everyone will gather at the church, then proceed downtown together. All ages are welcome to attend!
Applications for Endowment Fund Disbursements Due Thursday, October 31: The Endowment Fund provides support for ministry enhancement and property maintenance/enhancement. Daylight Savings Time Ends Next Sunday, November 3! Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night.
Bread for the World’s 2019 Offering of Letters: Better Nutrition, Better Tomorrow urges our government to accelerate progress toward ending hunger by increasing funding for global child nutrition programs. Using the web browser on your laptop, electronic notebook, or smartphone, visit bread.org/ol. After you enter your name, address, and zip code, the system will automatically email both your senators and representative. That’s three letters with the click of one button! We will offer our letters on Sunday, November 10, following worship. Look for our table in the parlor before and after the service. For more information on this year’s Offering of Letters, visit bread.org/ol.
PFLAG’s Friendsgiving Dinner will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on November 12, in the gym. If you identify as LGBTQ+ or are an individual/family who wants to show support for them, this event is for you. Bring a dish to share if you are able, but come anyway if you don’t have a dish. All are welcome! You can RSVP on PFLAG Morgantown’s Facebook page. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for questions.
Hanging of the Greens: Are you ready to prepare the church for the Advent season? After the service on Sunday, November 24, please help worship committee with the Hanging of the Greens (changing the paraments for the holiday season). As usual, we will furnish homemade soup, bread, and dessert for everyone helping. Please join in the fun – there is a lot to do and good food to eat.
Exam Packs: Please help FPC support our WVU students as they prepare for their finals by donating snack items for our exam packs. Our deacons will fill bags with these items and deliver them to our students. Please deposit individually wrapped, nutritious items such as dried soups, popcorn, crackers, nuts, dried fruits, assorted sweets, teas, hot chocolate packets, aspirin, juice boxes and other useful items into the exam pack box (in the parlor) by Sunday, December 8. Thank you for your support of this mission.
Save the date for the Advent Cantata during worship on December 15. We will be looking for youth and children to be narrators and cast members. See Ken Godwin if you would like to be a member of the choir for this event.
We, the people of First Presbyterian Church, are a welcoming congregation practicing the hospitality of Jesus by greeting, welcoming, and embracing visitors and guests. In addition to extending hospitality, we gladly assist visitors by helping them find their way through the building. If you’re unsure of where something is, just ask! We happily and consistently endeavor to reflect Christ’s love to visitors, guests, neighbors, and each other.
Attention Parents: We have a kids’ space in the back of the sanctuary with sensory and quiet activities to give children an outlet during worship. Don’t worry if a little noise comes from one of our little worshippers - we are grateful to have all ages in worship with us! We also have a nursery on the lower level for infants through age 5. Please feel free to take your children to meet our nursery attendants, Janine and Teanna, if you wish to do so.
We have a Prayer Place in the sanctuary for you to share prayer requests prior to the service. These requests will also be used to create a church prayer list distributed each week.
FPC’s Breeze Account: As you may know, our church directory is available online through Breeze. It’s a free, convenient way to access the church directory, send emails to members, and view/edit your contact information. If you haven’t registered, email Johnetta (FPCMorgantown@gmail.com) or Kim (PresbyMorgantown@gmail.com) and they will send a welcome email for you to set up a new account.
We have a church communication form for announcements shared in the bulletin, Good News, E-news, website, and social media accounts. You can access the form on the church website (https://www.firstpresmorgantown.org/resource-page) or pick up a paper copy from the church office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kim (304-296-8236; email@example.com).
