Music & Arts
First Presbyterian Church is both deeply rooted in tradition and widely open to the forms and expressions of our contemporary cultural experience. As we journey through the liturgical year we sing the faith through festive hymns, contemplative Taize prayer songs, and global music. The eclectic mix might include Bach, Brahms, Haugen, and Hopson, or gospel, jazz, and bluegrass. The church enjoys a 1979 Schlicker pipe organ, three-octave handbells, and choir chimes. Gifted instrumentalists enliven our community with folk instruments, guitar, piano, brass, strings, woodwinds, and percussion. Children and youth are welcomed into music leadership in many ways: from choirs to Orff instruments to organ to choir chimes.
New participants of all ages are always welcome!

 "Praise the Lord!...
Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing
cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the
Lord!
Praise the Lord!"
Psalm 150:1, 3-6
Presby Dancers
Presby Dancers is a group of adults and youth, men and women, who meet several times a week to work out and prepare sacred movement to participate in church services.
The dancers have ministered in worship on Palm Sunday, World Communion Sunday, and All Saints Sunday, performing "Let Us Behold Him"; provided music and dance entertainment from Ireland and Lithuania and group dance activities for the International Dinner; danced to "Coventry Carol and First Noel" for the annual Christmas Pageant and participated in the musical recital before the Christmas Pageant.
For more information: Shirley Schreiber, 304-292-3180.
Liturgical Arts Work Group
The Liturgical Arts Group works in conjunction with the Worship Committee to provide appropriate paraments and visual arts for the sanctuary to reflect the liturgical seasons of the year.
The group created batik purple window scarves, wooden crosses, and thorn crowns for the sanctuary windows during Lent; pastel batik window scarves and a beautiful banner made of hand-dyed fabrics for the Easter season; and blue and white furnishings for Advent and Christmas. Most recently, the group cross-stitched Christian symbols to be displayed in the windows during Ordinary Time.
Everyone is welcome to join the group as they work on new projects. For more information: Jean Dailey, 304-292-4041.
